GOOD TO KNOW
GET READY TO STEP INTO THE RING!
We’re excited to welcome you to Main Street Boxing Masters this October! From getting your yellow passbook to packing your gear, here’s what you’ll need to arrive prepared and ready to compete.
WHO CAN COMPETE?
Masters Boxing welcomes amateur boxers 35 and older. Fighters must meet USA Boxing’s amateur eligibility requirements, including restrictions on previous professional participation in boxing or other combat sports.
GET YOUR MEDICAL CLEARANCE
Schedule your annual physical and have your doctor complete the appropriate USA Boxing form, clearing you as fit to box.
-
Ages 35–40: Check with your Local Boxing Committee about which physical form to use.
-
Ages 41 and older: Use the Masters Physical Form. An eye examination is also required every five years.
-
Ages 45 and older: You’ll also need to pass an exercise EKG, commonly called a stress test, every five years.
Your annual physical must be current within the past 12 months and remain valid throughout the tournament.
GET YOUR MASTERS YELLOW PASSBOOK
Your yellow passbook is your official record for competing in Masters Boxing. Getting started takes a few steps:
-
Join or renew with USA Boxing. Select an athlete membership with Masters classification and complete the requirements shown in your account.
-
Prepare your documents. You’ll need proof of age—a birth certificate or passport—two passport-size photos, and your completed medical clearance.
-
Submit your paperwork. Follow your registration instructions for uploading documents and sending the required materials to your Local Boxing Committee (LBC).
-
Arrange your passbook. Contact your LBC to confirm everything is complete and arrange delivery. Allow at least 2–3 weeks, and check with them about current processing times.
Keep your fit-to-box clearance and any required medical releases inside your passbook, and bring it to the tournament.
COMPLETE YOUR TOURNAMENT REGISTRATION
Once your paperwork is underway, make sure you’re registered for the Main Street Boxing Masters tournament. Your USA Boxing membership and tournament entry are separate registrations.
USA Boxing membership generally expires December 31, so check that your membership and medical clearance cover the event dates.
YOUR EQUIPMENT CHECKLIST
Come prepared and ready to step into the ring! Use this checklist to get your gear together before the event.
-
Hand wraps or gauze and tape that meet USA Boxing competition rules.
-
Boxing shoes and socks.
-
Boxing trunks and a top, with a contrasting waistband so the beltline is clearly visible.
-
Groin protector—required for men and optional for women.
-
Mouthguard.
-
Your own USA Boxing–approved Masters competition headgear.
-
A hair cap or net if you have long hair.
We’ll Provide the Gloves
The event will provide approved 16 oz. competition boxing gloves for your bout.
Bring the Right Headgear
You must bring your own headgear approved for USA Boxing Masters competition. Check the specific model before purchasing—standard training or sparring headgear won’t meet this requirement.
